Riding Life’s Bigger Waves—My Parents’ Inspiring Next Chapter

There comes a time when we all need to help our parents navigate the inevitable waves of aging.

I see this time as a profound shift—a turning inward, a transformation. With a quiet but undeniable strength, my mother is leading the way.

When she was younger, she was there for many of our aging family members, lovingly seeing them through to the finish line. Now, she is older, too. She’s not navigating uncharted waters; however, she’s stepping up in ways I’ve never seen before and truly rising to meet the moment.

My dad’s health has been declining, and his combination of issues makes this path even steeper. But Mom? She’s showing up with resilience, grace, and strength that can only be forged in love and commitment.

I see her moving past frustration and fear, discovering higher ground—greater waves to ride. There’s clarity in her actions, a depth in her presence. She’s evolving into something more, something greater, as she confronts the unknown with a heart full of compassion.

So, what’s the message here? What does this mean for you and me?

It means that something is to be gained even in the most challenging moments. A new depth. A new understanding. A new way of showing up in life.

My mom, better known as Mom Mom, is rising to the occasion, riding higher waves than I ever imagined, proving that love and commitment can be the greatest sources of strength. In his way, my dad is stepping into the unknown, a place no one is ever truly prepared for but one we all must face at some point. He's always looked on the bright side of life and continues to do so, setting a brilliant example for us all.

Their journey is teaching me. It’s changing me.

It reminds me that our struggles can be a gift, a teacher, or a force shaping us into something greater than before.

I am honored to help in any way I can, to support my mother as she rises, and to be present for my father as he faces this challenging chapter.

Ultimately, this is what life represents: a ride, a wave, an ever-changing, unpredictable ocean. If we can discover our balance, if we can rise to meet the swell rather than resist it, we may just find ourselves stronger, steadier, and more alive than ever before.

So, wherever you are, whatever waves you’re riding, know that even in the most challenging moments, something beautiful is unfolding.
